May Shin Thant

May Shin Thant was born and raised in Yangon, Myanmar. Following her high school graduation, she initially pursued studies at the University of Medicine (1), Yangon. However, amidst political turbulence in Myanmar, she joined the civil disobedience movement. This decision led to gaps in her educational journey.

 

Currently, May Shin Thant is an undergraduate student at Parami University, where she is in her sophomore year. Her academic pursuits are paralleled by a keen interest in addressing gender inequalities prevalent in Myanmar. Additionally, she is deeply fascinated by diverse cultures and languages, actively expanding her linguistic proficiency by delving into Korean and Japanese.

 

Beyond her academic endeavors, May Shin Thant serves as the vice president of the University mental health club, EvolveMinds, and contributes significantly to the medical journal club. She has also participated in the Exploring Healthcare Program, facilitated by Volunteers in Asia (VIA), where she explored various healthcare issues, including mental health and the LGBTQ+ community.

 

Despite her diverse interests, May Shin Thant remains committed to her educational journey, continuously integrating her passion for addressing inequalities and healthcare issues into her pursuits. Alongside her academic endeavors, she nurtures a love for playwriting and storytelling, recognizing the power of narrative in advocating for social change.
