Aguer Tor Thiel

My name is Aguer Tor Thiel, and I am a South Sudanese male. I was born in 1997 in the serene village of Wangulei, located in Jonglei State, South Sudan. Growing up in a small village surrounded by beautiful landscapes, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural wonders of my homeland. Unfortunately, my childhood was marked by turmoil and conflict. When civil war struck South Sudan, my family and I were forced to flee our home. We sought refuge in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, where I commenced my education at Mwiki Primary School. Despite the challenges of displacement, I remained steadfast in my pursuit of knowledge. After completing my primary education, I enrolled in St Augustine High School in Muranga. Here, I had the opportunity to broaden my horizons and gain a comprehensive secondary education. It was during this time that I became increasingly aware of the pressing health and social issues affecting my community. Motivated by a desire to actively contribute to the betterment of society, I embarked on courses in TB training offered by the International Rescue Committee. To further my skills and understanding, I also obtained certificates in Social Emotional Learning and Teachers in Crisis Context Training and Child Safeguarding from the esteemed Lutheran World Federation. These educational experiences paved the way for my career in humanitarian work. I had the privilege of working as a community health promoter with the International Rescue Committee, where I dedicated myself to improving the well-being of marginalized populations. Currently, I serve as a primary school teacher at Gambella Primary School through the Lutheran World Federation. It brings me great joy to empower young minds and witness their growth and potential. Additionally, I am pursuing my studies through OSUN. This educational journey has expanded my knowledge and provided invaluable opportunities for personal growth. Beyond my professional endeavors and academic pursuits, I find solace in reading and writing, as they allow me to explore new ideas and expand my perspective. In the future, I aspire to contribute to the fields of education, international relations, and peacebuilding. Driven by a genuine belief in the transformative power of education and a deep commitment to my community, I strive to make a positive impact in South Sudan. With unwavering determination and an unwavering dedication to building a brighter future, I am eager to contribute to the development and peacebuilding efforts in my country.
